PCCI Delegates visit JGC Yokohama

Twenty three (23) Delegates from The Philippine Chamber of Commerce visited JGC Corporation on February 10, 2010 as part of their 12-day Training Course on Project & Program Management. AOTS (Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship) organized the schedule of this group that composed of corporate leaders from top private companies in the Philippines.
The Training Course opened with a brief history of Yokohama and JGC Corporation given by Mr. Toyohiko Shimada, Sr. General Manager of Planning & Business Promotion Division, followed by a comprehensive presentation on EPC & Project Management by Mr. Yukihiro Makino, Director & Senior Manager of Corporate Strategy Office. He emphasized the critical role of a successful Project Management considering good communication as well as timely and effective decision-making. According to him, one of the reasons JGC has become a leader in global engineering is because of the Corporate Culture it has retained, one of which is working with the Asian mind which Makino-san stated is the same work dedication as that of Filipinos. He added that Filipino Engineers are smart but tend to lean on the Western side of the globe. For this, Mr. Louie Barabat, the event host and a certified Engineer himself, commented that a good mindset will make an Engineer stay. As a self-confessed patriot, he believes that a company’s growth is his growth too.
Moving on to the next part is the Advanced CAD Demonstration presented by Mr. Tatsuya Tanaka, Group Leader of IT Department (Engineering). He explained that JGC promotes the Global IT usage through remote access and 3D Engineering. A presentation of the schedule software to coordinate project completion was also shown. The group was most impressed with the 4D CAD Construction work study simulation created by JGC Engineers. Finally, Mr. Hirumi Kawamuto, Sr. Manager of New Energy Business Department, presented JGC Philippines’ Bioethanol & Cogeneration Plant in Isabela, Philippines in coordination with GFII (Green Future Innovations, Inc.). Bioethanol or alternative fuel is a renewable energy that can be produced from agricultural feedstock such as sugarcane.

Mr. Barabat acknowledged all JGC members & AOTS for the smooth flow of the event. In a very Filipino way, it ended with a group picture taking (of several cameras) to the delight of our Kababayans.
